Members of the Murray Bridge community and surrounding areas dug deep into their pockets at the weekend to help raise valuable funds for disability support organisation Community Lifestyles.
In its second year, the major annual fundraiser organised by the Community Spirit Fundraising group transformed the Murray Bridge Racecourse into an African wonderland on Saturday night.
Community Lifestyles chief executive officer Susan Michael says it was a very successful night attended by about 140 people. “From our early estimates, it looks like the event will have raised even more than last year’s $12,500 with more than $11,000 from the auction, and extra funds still to be added from tickets and other donations,” says Susan.
“This is a fantastic result and I really can’t stress enough how grateful we are for the generous support of the local community – from Murray Bridge, to the Adelaide Hills and Murraylands region who donated goods for the auction and food, and also came along on the night.”
These funds will go towards the stage two development of a playground at the Children’s Respite house – a facility that gives families a break from their regular caring commitments and provides children with a disability the opportunity to make new friends, enjoy personal development and have fun through activities and outings.
Entertainment at the fundraiser followed the African theme led by Professor Dada Nii and his high energy dance band, along with an African choir and dancers who travelled from Adelaide.
